Week 2

Week 2 has been a very busy week.

Monday we took a trip to Beaumont to get our heal stuck and squeezed until what seemed like the lady was taking out all the blood in her little foot.

Tuesday we went back to Beaumont for our 2 week check up.
Olivia now weighs 7lbs 12 oz and is 20 in.

We also started a new schedule this week. With all the excitement of having a new baby around I basically let Olivia eat and sleep whenever she felt like it. I new that this was not the right thing to do, and did not want Olivia’s routine to continue to be like this. If it continued I would never get any sleep at night. I am basing our routine from reading the book, Baby Wise. The book basically states that if you follow the schedule it will promote sleeping through the night. This is our first week to try it and yesterday was the first day I can honestly say we followed the routine. Olivia took her last feeding at 1:40 am and did not wake up until 6:44 am this morning. The uninterrupted sleep was very nice. Even Dallas was amazed that it worked. I know that everything is not perfect and am expecting some sleepless nights. However, I am really hoping to have more nights like last night.

A couple of pictures from our week.

Our first booboo that would not stop bleeding.

The second day Olivia was home I tried cutting her fingernails and right off the bat I got her. It didn’t bleed, but I stopped and said I would never cut them again. The first week I asked everyone around to cut them for me and no one would do it. I asked Carol and she informed me that she always had Jack cut them when Dallas and Ben were little. Even Jack wouldn't cut Olivia's. This week Olivia took out a nice chunck of her face and I finally convinced Mama into cutting them for me. She didn’t want to do it either, but finally gave in. On the third finger she got Olivia and boy did it bleed! It didn’t seem to phase Olivia one bit, but it broke Honey’s heart. She looked at me and said to never ask her to cut them again. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start cutting them.

My face that caused Honey to give in and cut my fingernails.

Saturday's Outing

Today was a much needed day. Monday will make 2 weeks since Olivia has blessed our home. Dallas and my mother have both been hinting around about me getting out of the house. I thought Mama just wanted me to get out so she could watch Olivia. Little did I know she knew what was needed. I have not been out since we came home from the hospital and then two days later a quick trip back to the doctor’s office for Olivia to get checked out. After lunch I convinced myself to get out for a while, so I called one of the best babysitters in town, Honey, my mother. To most, this outing might not seem like much, but it was the best outing I had been on with Dallas in a while. We drove to the big town of Kountze to the courthouse, so I could see Dallas’ new office. For those of you who do not know Dallas left the DA’s office in Newton County and accepted the Assistant DA’s position in our home county, Hardin. After leaving the courthouse we then drove around and went to Sonic and had a diet Dr. Pepper and shared an order of onion rings. We laughed that the wine and dining dates and drives to Houston to go out to eat are over with. When we returned home we found Olivia had another special visitor ride over on his bike to stay with her, my Daddy, Happy. It was nice getting out and returning home knowing that we are blessed not only to have such a special daughter, but also knowing that our family, whether it be my parents or Dallas’ they are here to call on anytime we need them.
